Frequently Asked Questions

What color should I paint my shoes?
If you're in the Spiritual Healers section, please use Silver paint, but for all of the other sections, please use gold. If you're like me, you probably already have a can of spray paint handy, otherwise, it's easily available at your local hardware store.
Where do we meet up for our after-Parade meal??
Once the parade is over for our band, we're asking everyone to congregate in the Mcdonalds Restaurant Parking lot next to Banneker Park. We'll wait for about 5-7 minutes before we all go to our usual spot to distribute food and beverages. Feel free to call Germaine on her cell phone (240-447-2417) if you get there and cannot find anyone.
How do I reserve one of the I.C.E. Carnival Hotel rooms?

If you’d like to reserve one of the remaining hotel rooms reserved by the band for June 26th and 27th, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it by June 14th and we’ll confirm if there’s a room available and then send you the information to allow you to reserve with your credit card.

When and where should we pickup our costumes?

Costumes will be ready for pickup starting on Saturday, June 20 between 4pm – 8pm. Please email or call to let me know that you’re coming up to the Mas Camp to collect your costume. While you’re here, you can try on your costume, and if you’d like, we can make any last minute tweaks before you leave.

We’ll also be able to bring some costumes to the Dimanche Gras competition at Crossroads on Sunday, June 21. If you’d like us to bring it there, then please confirm via email or telephone.

Please remember, If you’d like someone else to pick up your costume, please email (DO NOT CALL) to confirm this arrangement during the dates and times above. Those of you that are from out of town,  please email or call me to let me know when you’ll be arriving and we can confirm where you can meet us ahead of the parade. In an emergency, we’ll meet you at the start of the parade, and you can change into your costume in a private changing area.

When and where should we meet on the day of the Parade?

On Saturday, June 27, please meet us at the corner of Missouri Ave and 9th ST NW by 10am. The DC Carnival Committee has advised us that any truck not on the route by 11am, will not be allowed to participate, so if you’re not able to meet us at the beginning, there may not be a way for us to let you know exactly where we are in the parade route.

I have a friend in another section and I’d like to be on the parade route together. Is that okay?

During the parade, we don’t mind folks from different sections hanging together and having a good time, EXCEPT, as we get ready to cross the judging points. When we’re getting ready to cross the judging points, we will ask our Marshalls and some of you to spread the word that we need to get into our sections.

In what order will the sections parade?

The order of the sections is designed to provide the best possible impact at the judging points. In our estimation, all of our sections are equally great and this year we had the toughest time picking the order. Given that the order this year will be Witch Doctors (1st), Sun Worshippers (2nd), Rain Dancers (3rd) and Spiritual Healers (last but certainly not least).

Within the sections, please remember, that as we cross the judging points, frontline costumes should be ahead of the backline costumes.

What is the menu this year and how do I confirm my menu preference?

This year, we’ll be providing boxed lunches comprising Caribbean Rice and peas, Stew Chicken and Chow Mein. If you’d prefer a vegetarian option, you should email us by June 20 to advise of this, and we’ll provide Caribbean Rice and peas and Vegetable Chow Mein, minus the Stew Chicken.

When is my final payment due?

I.C.E. Carnival provides very flexible payment terms to ensure participants can comfortably enjoy being a member of our band. If you participated in early bird regstration, to receive the discount specified, final payment must be made in up to two (2) installments by midnite on May 15, 2009. Otherwise, final payment is due in up to three installments by midnite on June 12, 2009.

What happens if I cannot make my final payments by the deadline?

In the event, that you're unable to make final payments in a timely manner, there are a couple possibilities that you should be aware of. Firstly, if you had an early bird discount and cannot make final payment by the May 15th deadline, you lose the discount and the costume price would revert to the regular price. Secondarily, if you cannot make final payment by June 12th, 2009, then you'll also be responsible for a shipping fee of $30, on top of the loss of any discount you had secured.

How can I see the costumes in person?

If you live in the Baltimore / DC area, please email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or call me at 240-447-2417, to make an appointment to come see the costumes.
